The Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) is central New Jersey's first Black history museum telling the story of African Americans from the time of the trans-Atlantic slave trade to present day. Located at the historic Mt. Zion AME Church and True Farmstead, SSAAM shares the unique history and contributions of African Americans in New Jersey's Sourland Mountain region through tours, exhibits, and special events.
Mt. Zion AME Church is a historically African American church constructed in 1899 and listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places in 2018. The adjacent True Farmstead was originally owned by a Black Union Army veteran and served as a working farm owned by the African American True family for more than a century.
