Day 1: Camden County
Visit Pomona Hall, home to the Camden County Historical Society, where you’ll find exhibits about influential women in Camden County and the activities of the county’s suffragists as they fought for women’s right to vote. Travel the short distance to Collingswood for a leisurely lunch at one of the renowned ethnic restaurants on Haddon Avenue. Head to Haddonfield to visit Greenfield Hall, headquarters of the Haddonfield Historical Society and ancestral home of the Haddon family. Discover the life of Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh, noted Quaker and founder of Haddonfield. Complete your day with a visit to the Peter Mott House and Underground Railroad Museum in Lawnside, the oldest house in town. Eliza Mott, along with her husband, were leaders in the abolitionist movement and opened their house as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Visit the Battleship New Jersey, the nation's most decorated battleship that is now a floating museum where visitors can walk in the steps of the sailors who served on the ship. Located just around the corner is the Walt Whitman House, the only home ever owned by Walt Whitman and where he hosted visitors from around the world and completed his last comprehensive volume of poetry before his death in 1892. Worked up an appetite? Grab a famous Philly Cheese Steak at one of Camden’s long-standing steak sandwich emporiums.
MORE WAYS TO EMBRACE WOMEN'S HISTORY
Visit the Red Bank Battlefield, Whitall House, and Fort Mercer where the British occupied the Delaware River 1777 and Ann Cooper Whitall refused to leave home. Instead, she remained working at her spinning wheel as the battle raged around her. Experience farm life at the Barclay Farmstead Museum, preserved by Helen Barclay for the benefit of the Cherry Hill community.
