Kingsland Manor

Kingsland Manor is a Dutch Colonial home with Federal-style elements built in 1768 by John Walls, who owned a nearby lumber mill, and his son, James. In 1785, the home was sold to contractor Joseph Kingsland who purchased the mill and 23 acres of woodland. The home remained in the Kingsland family for three centuries and underwent several upgrades and expansions. During this time, the Kingsland family served as an integral part of the development of the North Belleville, Franklin, and Nutley areas from 1787 to 1905. Besides their lumber and paper interests, they also ran a grist mill and sold ice and coal. The house was added to the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
Today, visitors can tour the house to learn more about the Kingsland family’s contributions to the surrounding area and explore collections of eighteenth and nineteenth century furniture, paintings, decorative objects, toys, and household items.
