Situated in Surgent Park, the Hamilton House Museum is an 19th century Dutch house dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the Hamilton-Van Wagoner homestead and the role it played in the City of Clifton’s 19th century rural history. The home features distinct architectural elements from the Victorian, Federal, and Colonial eras. Visitors are encouraged to imagine themselves living in the past as they step through six rooms, each showcasing a different time period and pattern of life. Tours of the house, its gardens, the spring house, and granary depict almost 200 years of rural American life. Today, the site is owned by the City of Clifton and operated by Passaic County’s Department of Cultural and Historic Affairs. The Hamilton House Museum hosts various events and programs throughout the year.
