Civil War and Native American Museum

2202 Kuser Road, Hamilton, NJ 08690

609-439-8897

The Civil War and Native American Museum is the first Civil War Museum in New Jersey. The museum occupies “The Pepper House” a two-story, seven room tenant house that was once part of the John Abbott II Farm. The house was used for drying vegetables which were hung from the rafters. Jim Thorpe, Olympic gold medalist and the first Native American to win a gold medal for the United States, spent a season living in the house as a migrant farm worker.

Visitors can tour exhibits that feature uniforms, weapons, equipment, and material relating to the experience of the common soldier during the Civil War as well as the Native American dating back to 8,000 BC. Located on site is a gift shop which offers many Civil War and some Native American books and period related items. The museum is operated by the Camp Olden Civil War Round Table & Museum. The Round Table is named for Camp Olden, an 1861 training camp located in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The organization hosts living history demonstrations, tours, lectures, and events throughout the year.
