The Camden Shipyard and Maritime Museum is located in the former Church of Our Saviour in the South Camden Historic District. The church historically served a congregation linked to the nearby shipbuilding and maritime industries and its Parish Hall is constructed of ballast stones, brought back from Admiral Robert Perry and Mathew Henson’s 1892 explorations of Greenland. The museum interprets the history of the Camden shipbuilding industry and its contributions to global seafaring exploration.
Visitors are welcome to tour Maritime Hall which provides guests with an opportunity to explore the rich history of shipbuilding in the City of Camden, and the Matthew Henson Artic Explorer Room and Community Gallery to learn about the first African American explorer and his interesting connection to Camden. Guests can also learn the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics of boatbuilding through hands-on programming.
